I was excited to make two trips to Benjamin Hargreaves CE Primary, Accrington, in September.
The first morning visit started with a KS2 author assembly. The children listened brilliantly as I explained the events of the last five years in forty minutes! I even managed to put on the storytelling waistcoat to share an Impossible Tale.
After catching my breath, I spent the rest of the morning writing with Year 5 and Year 4. The older pupils looked at characterisation. We pulled apart a piece of my writing before the pupils rebuilt their own version. Year 4 had read Blown Away from Impossible Tales. They created alternatives endings for the story. Two fantastic workshops to conclude the first visit.
The second visit started with a storytelling session with Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2. I shared two stories: one featuring a nasty pirate and the other a missing ring. The pupils made a wonderful audience and it was a joy to share the Tales with them.
The rest of the morning was spent with Year 3 and Year 6. Year 3 tried to create their own endings for Blown Away and Year 6 created nasty characters. Two brilliant workshops to end my time at Benjamin Hargreaves.
Before I left, I signed copies of the Tales and Eric’s adventures and chatted a little more to the pupils.
Big thanks must go to Mrs Barker for inviting me to visit school and promoting the book signing so effectively. I had a cracking time at Benjamin Hargreaves CE Primary and hopefully I’ll get to visit again at some point in the future.
