It was great to receive an invitation to visit Lea Primary to talk about writing my books as part of ‘Aspirations Week’.
As it was my first visit to the school, I started right at the beginning. I explained to the Key Stage 2 pupils how my writing adventure started with a load of first drafts in a notebook. Those stories eventually became Impossible Tales and were followed by Eric’s first book.
I went on to explain how More Impossible Tales was created, both the text and the illustrations. The children saw the cover in its various stages of development and it looked especially cool on the huge screen in the school hall.
To finish the session, I put on the storytelling waistcoat to share one of the stories from the second colection of Tales. It’s a particularly horrible story that includes cow pats and a lost ring. It was great to see the children and the teachers react to the story – there were lots of hands covering faces and horrified expressions. Brilliant!
I’d like to thank Mrs Arrowsmith for inviting me and the children for being so attentive and making me feel really welcome. I had a lovely time at Lea Primary.
