This was my first visit to Strike Lane and I was really excited to meet the pupils.
As I hadn’t been before I kicked off the assembly by explaining the writing process involved in creating Impossible Tales. I shared an extract from Blown Away. Can there be a better way of starting a Tuesday morning than reading about a kid with chronic wind?! The children (and staff) laughed at all the right points which was ace. I’ve read the extract in over 90 schools and I never get bored of hearing children chuckle. It’s just magical!
I then moved on to Eric and shared his story with the pupils. The children tried to spot the changes Martin had made at each stage and listened to a couple of extracts about Eric and Dad. They listened so well and it was a delight to share the book with them.
After grabbing a brew while the children were out for playtime, I headed round the classes to sign some books. It was lovely to spend a bit more time in each class chatting with the pupils. They asked lots of great questions which I enjoyed answering.
Many thanks to Mrs Bamber and Mr Williams for organising the visit. I had a fabulous time and it was a pleasure to share the books in such a lovely school. Hopefully I’ll get to return at some point soon.
