It had been a couple of years since my last visit to Chaucer Primary, Fleetwood, so I was excited about returning.
The morning kicked off with an author assembly for KS2. I explained the writing process and showed the children how the illustrations are created by Martin. The session finished with a performance of one of the Tales. It was a stomach-churning story, especially at 9:30am, fortunately it went down well and the children laughed at all the right times!
Next up was a writing workshop with Year 5. The focus was characterisation. We looked at characters from books the children had read before pulling apart a piece of my writing. The children then rebuilt their own parallel version. The ideas that were flying around were fantastic and I think the first drafts will reflect this.
Before I left we held a book signing. It was great to chat a little more whilst I signed copies of the Tales and Eric’s adventures.
I had a great time at Chaucer. Hopefully I’ll get to return again at some point in the future. Big thanks must go to Mrs Willis for pulling together the visit and promoting the book signing.
