This was my final trip of the academic year to the east Lancashire area.
I hadn’t visited Rosewood before, which made it that extra bit exciting. The school is two-form entry so the hall was really full when the pupils had taken their places. The subsequent assembly allowed me to promote reading for pleasure and explain the writing process. Martin’s illustrations featured too, along with an explanation how he creates them! It never fails to amaze me just how talented he is and how lucky I am to work with him. I couldn’t visit without putting on the storytelling waistcoat and performing a Tale. It was a particularly stomach-churning story, but I think it went down really well.
The rest of the morning was split between the two Year 5 classes. They were just brilliant! The pupils were enthusiastic and buzzing with writing energy during the workshops. The time whizzed by and before I knew it we had made it to lunch. I managed to read a couple of first drafts from the first group and the content blew my mind. Mission objective achieved!
The visit concluded with a book signing at lunch, including some books for the school library. I hope they bring plenty of hours of happy reading to the pupils.
I would like to thank Miss Whitwell for setting up the visit. I had a cracking morning at Rosewood and I hope the pupils did too.
