The final visit of the half term took place at Lea Endowed CE Primary, Preston.
It was my first visit to the school so the morning kicked off with an author assembly to get the pupils up to speed with the events of the last five years. I explained the writing process behind the Tales and Eric’s adventures and the pupils even got to see the illustrations at the various stages of development. We finished the session with a performance of one of the Tales, which went down really well. A top way to start the morning!
Next up was a writing workshop with Year 3/4. We explored nasty characters the children had encountered in books and films before pulling apart a piece of text I’m working on for a future Impossible Tale. The children discovered how I created the main character and pinched ideas to add to their own nasty character. The pupils worked brilliantly and the session flew by. After lots of discussion and planning I left the children to write their first draft.
After repeating the session with Year 4/5, I was buzzing with writing energy and enthusiasm. The children were a joy to work with and I’m genuinely excited to read some examples of their writing.
A book signing concluded the morning and it was lovely to sign lots of books and chat a little more to the pupils.
I had a brilliant morning at Lea Endowed Primary. Big thanks must go to Mrs Bolton for inviting me along and promoting the signing so effectively.
