I spent two mornings at Baines High School writing with some of the Year 7 students. I enjoyed every minute!
The pupils had been working on a topic called ‘Heroes & Villains’ during the half term. Before the visit, I prepared a piece of writing about a nasty kid, who I felt could take on a future role in one of the Impossible Tales. During the writing sessions, I challenged the pupils to create their own nasty character who I could use in one of my stories.
The students rose to the challenge and after looking at my writing they planned out and wrote fantastic descriptive pieces. We looked at ‘showing not telling’, which is always a tricky concept, but the pupils used lots of good examples in their writing. It was lovely to hear some of them read their work aloud and see the pride on their faces. Fantastic! I’m hoping to share some examples of the writing on here when they have been completed and edited.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Baines High School and would like to thank Mr Davies and the rest of the English department for making me feel so welcome.
