I was thrilled to bits when I was asked to join the Save Our Stories rescue crew for some festive storytelling at Palatine Library.
I had created a festive tale to share with children from three local primaries that had accepted an invitation to visit. The first school to arrive was Marton Primary Academy who brought a class of Year 2 pupils. Half of the children stayed with me as I put on the storytelling waistcoat to share the tale about the time I helped to rescue Christmas. The rest of the class went off to design gingerbread characters. After a little while the groups swapped before everyone enjoyed a gingerbread biscuit, orange juice and a look around the SOS rescue ship.
After catching my breath, the session was repeated with Year 1 pupils from Waterloo Academy before St Cuthbert’s Primary arrived with Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. Every child listened attentively and they were all a credit to their schools.
By the time I finished I was one very tired storyteller. Six storytelling sessions with 120 fantastic pupils. What a cracking day!
