Monday kicked off at Unity Academy with an author assembly. Despite visiting last year for a storytelling session, this was my first visit to share my books. I read an extract from Blown Away, which is one of my favourite stories in Impossible Tales. The children laughed at all the right bits which was ace.
I then moved on to explain about the process involved in writing Eric Appleby. I think the children were a bit shocked when they saw all of the edited manuscripts! They got to see the illustrations at the different stages and we tried to spot the changes which Martin made.
The pupils at Unity were great and it was lovely to chat a bit more and sign some books. Thanks to Mrs Latham for organising the visit.
After grabbing lunch I headed off to the 102nd school on my writing journey, Wesham-with-Medlar C of E Primary, to share my adventure with the pupils. It was my first visit and I was really excited about meeting the staff and pupils.
They got the full story which started with the Tales and ended with Eric. The children listened beautifully and asked loads of great questions. I also enjoyed signing some books and chatting a bit more afterwards.
It was a joy to share the books with the children and I can’t wait to return in July to write with some of the pupils. Thanks to Mrs Dean for organising the visit.
