It was an early start to get to Colne for a morning of storytelling and writing.
The morning kicked off with a storytelling assembly with all of the children from Y1 – 6. The hall was packed and it was a delight to pull on the story waistcoat and share an Impossible Tale with the children. They listened so well as I shared the story of Deep Scar Davis and the pirate necklace. The story lasted for just under twenty-five minutes and you could have heard a pin drop. It was ace!
I followed a Year 5 class back and we then had a session of writing. We focused on an extract I’d written about a nasty kid called Bazza Simmons. As I read the text, the children ‘magpied’ words or phrases which they liked and wanted to use in their writing. The kids then talked to their partners about Bazza Simmons as they were going to rewrite the piece creating him as they wanted to see him. They discussed what he looked like, what he was doing and how others reacted to him. After lots of chatting and then written planning, they created a short descriptive piece. I was blown away by the quality of the writing! Hopefully the teachers will photograph some of the work so I can share some edited writes on here.
After catching my breath, I scooted to a Year 3 class and repeated the session. Yet again the children blew my socks off with their fantastic writing. I can’t wait to see some of the edited pieces of work.
Many thanks to Miss Motala for pulling together the morning and inviting me into her fabulous school. I was made to feel welcome by the children and staff which was lovely. The morning flew by and I had a smashing time.
