The final event of the half term was at St Teresa’s where I’d been invited to introduce the children to Eric Appleby.
I kicked off the session by updating the children about what had happened since I last saw them. My previous visit was just after Impossible Tales was released so I had lots to share.
When the children were up to speed, I then introduced them to Eric. I explained how the story came together and blew their minds by showing them the edited manuscripts at each stage. I talked them through the chance meeting with Martin while I was mowing my lawn and showed the children the illustrations at each stage. We even played ‘spot the difference’ as the children tried to identify the changes he’d made at each stage of the process.
Before the session ended, I shared extracts featuring Eric and Dad and the children agreed that the illustrations matched the text. Martin will be thrilled to bits! The children had lots of questions and some of them really made me think! Brilliant!
I had a fantastic morning at St Teresa’s and it was a pleasure to share Eric’s story. Huge thanks must go to Miss Turner for setting up the event and promoting it so effectively. I can’t wait to return to St Teresa’s in April to write with some of the pupils.
