It’d been seven months since my last visit to Manor Beach and it was lovely to return.
Last time, I shared the Tales and I was so pleased to hear the children telling me about what they could remember from last time as they were setting up the hall. Even after seven months, they could remember the extract from Blown Away. Brilliant!
My visit was tied in with ‘Aspirations Week’ so I started off by talking about writing as a career and explained what I do and some of the characteristics I thought an author needed. The children had spoken to lots of visitors already, including a nurse, so it was nice to be part of the week.
I then explained what had happened with Impossible Tales since my last visit before moving on to Eric. The children saw Martin’s illustrations at each stage of the process and discovered how Eric’s adventure came about. I took all of the edited manuscripts to show them and hopefully they won’t now complain when they have to edit their work in class!
After reading a couple of extracts, I was thrilled to trundle around the school to sign some books and welcome some new recruits to ‘Team Eric’.
Huge thanks to Miss Davies for setting up the visit. I had a great time and Eric enjoyed himself too. Hopefully I’ll get to return with ‘More Impossible Tales’ later in the school year.
